Welthungerhilfe was founded in 1962 as the National Committee of the Freedom from Hunger Campaign set up by the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO). Non-profit making, non-denominational and politically independent, it is run by a board of honorary members under the patronage of the Federal Republic of Germany. Today, it is one of the largest, nondenominational and non-political German NGO in development co-operation and emergency relief.
WHH in Afghanistan strives to change the conditions that lead to hunger and poverty. Welthungerhilfe overall objective in Afghanistan is to reduce the level of poverty while improving the livelihoods for the most vulnerable population. WHH believes that sustainable development of rural infrastructure and expansion of both farm and non-farm economy is the only way forward to achieve such an inclusive growth in Afghanistan, which is moving from the period of reconstruction into development. Comprehensive rural development will help in reducing poverty; expand employment and enterprises creation and enhancing livelihood opportunities to improve the wellbeing of all Afghans, particularly those living in the rural areas.
