As an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations, the federally owned “Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH” supports the German Government in achieving its development-policy objectives.
GIZ is currently working in six Northern Provinces of Afghanistan: Balkh, Samangan, Baghlan, Kunduz, Takhar and Badakhshan with national and international staff, maintaining one or more offices, guesthouses and one RMO-Office per Province. Programmes are implemented for different clients from at least two out of the five German Development Focal Areas.
In order to create synergies and foster regional coherence between all GIZ programmes the new function of GIZ Regional Coordinator(RC) for Kunduz and Baghlan Province was introduced by the GIZ Country Director and GIZ Head-Office. Since February 2014 the international RC is responsible for these functions, fostering regional coherence between the programmes: (1) GIZ representation to BMZ and partners–‘one face to the client’,(2)GIZ Regional security focal point, (3) GIZ coordination of interface management and (4) needs assessment for finance and admin issues.
