BCC Trainer Kandahar Province

Job Description:

To be a member of a mobile nutrition team and provide BCC (behavior change and communication) to the targeted communities in Kandahar city and districts, to increase household level awareness and practice of Health, Nutrition, WASH and Food Security.

Behaviour change communication will address topics including IYCF, nutrition for PLWs, food preparation, health seeking behaviour for common causes of under-five morbidity and mortality, and hygiene and sanitation practices on household level.


  • To work as part of a mobile nutrition team covering multiple sites
  • To ensure accurate record keeping of all activities, following the provided data collection templates
  • Giving high quality and participatory trainings on community level
  • Capacity building of NEW on training skills and topics
  • Preparing trainings, making sure IEC material is ready on time and processed correctly
  • Providing constructive feedback towards promoters and volunteers
  • Be flexible and willing to assist in other areas of work as requested
  • To ensure safe storage and handling of the stock (BCC Materials) 


  • Technical
  • Giving qualitative and participatory training at community level to the NEWs
  • Building up the training capacity of NEWs and community members
  • Providing constructive feedback to NEWs and community members
  • Making sure that supportive IEC material is prepared and will be distributed on time and processed correctly

Quality Management

  • Ensure adherence to the provided protocols and guidelines
  • Responsible for adequate data collection through NEWs and community members, train NEWs community members on data collection
  • When giving training to NEWs and community members or visiting them, uses monitoring checklists and provide constructive feedback
  • Ensure accurate record keeping of all BCC activities, filling in forms, cards, registration books and tally sheets as required
  • Compile reports as required

Community Acceptance & Community Based Working:

  • Will coordinate and liaise with local communities to find NEWs as well as accurate training places for NEWs  trainings
  • Will coordinate and liaise with local communities when there are challenging circumstances or problems, knows when to ask for help from supervisors, managers or other relevant parties
  • Behaviour and dressing will be appropriate


  • Ensure safe storage of all BCC related materials
  • Ensure accurate record keeping of stock movements
  • Assist the BCC Supervisor in preparing stock requests


Job Requirements:


  • High-school graduate.

Relevant experience

  • At least 1 year relevant post graduate experience


  • Fluent in Pashto-oral and written skills

  • Ability to work in a team and coordinate tasks and responsibilities
  • ·Ability to organize people in an orderly way and prioritize tasks
  • Good listening and counselling skills, patient and kind attitude
  • Highly motivated to provide high quality services to beneficiaries of poor communities in a challenging setting
